Meet Vodacom Mozambique’s Daisy Jardim, a pioneering volunteer whose passion for technology and education is reshaping communities.
 
In 2013, Daisy was struck by lightning. From then on, she wanted to learn more about electromagnetic waves so took a step to study electronic engineering. Around the same time, Vodafone Foundation, in partnership with the UNHCR, launched our Instant Network Schools (INS) – a programme that improves the quality of education in some of the most marginalised communities in Africa 🌍
 
Fast forward to today, and Daisy is an advocate for #digital empowerment through the INS programme. Her dedication earned her the title of Vodafone Foundation’s Volunteer of the Year, showcasing her leadership in using technology for societal good 🏆
 
Daisy and her team are on a mission to help refugee communities harness technology to revolutionise learning, inspire growth and transform the leaders of tomorrow! They train coaches and teachers, set up digital resources, and provide guidance on using these tools effectively 🎯
 
Daisy is a great example of how our people are helping communities grow while accelerating their own skills and passions too! 🚀

Subsea cables play a vital role in Europe's connectivity, competitiveness, defence readiness, and economic stability 🌊🔗

Vodafone, alongside a group of other leading European telecoms operators and cable industry companies – Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise Submarine Networks, GlobalConnect, NKT, Orange, Proximus Group, Sparkle, Telefonica and Telenor – has written an open letter to European, UK, and NATO decision-makers.

Calling for closer co-operation with EU and UK industry stakeholders, the letter argues the need to take additional measures to further develop harmonised approaches for the subsea cables ecosystem to increase its resilience and security.

Vodafone Germany's 'One for One' campaign has been recognised by SABRE Awards EMEA 2025 as one of the most impactful campaigns in Europe and won the best in the DACH region 🏅📱💚
 
‘One for One’ promises that for every phone sold to a private customer, we recover one end-of-life device from an African country lacking proper e-waste recycling infrastructure – in partnership with Closing the Loop and MSL Germany.

So far, we’ve collected 1.5 million devices:
- Recovering 6,300 kg copper, 37 kg silver, and 7 kg gold
- Collecting 80+ tons of e-waste
- Supporting 3,800+ monthly incomes locally
- Contributing towards building a local recycling ecosystem in Africa

On 6th March, we were delighted that Steve Yoon, Keysight Technologies’ Senior Vice President for Global Sales, and Thierry LOCQUETTE, Regional Vice President of Sales, EMEA, could visit our state-of-the-art Open RAN Lab in Newbury, UK.

Keysight Technologies and Vodafone share a strong partnership in advancing Open RAN, and it was great to showcase our collaboration using Keysight's Open RAN test equipment and to discuss enhancements in automation and efficiency for testing Open RAN network equipment.

It was equally inspiring to engage with James Grayling, Dan Shannon and Akash Dumbre – the co-author of the Open RAN Handbook 2nd Edition, and discuss how such initiatives drive industry education with proven results. Excited to strengthen our partnership as Open RAN continues to evolve!

We’re improving road safety in the Netherlands with STEP 🚑

The integration of Vodafone’s Safer Transport for Europe Platform (STEP) with the Urban Data Access Platform (UDAP) in the Netherlands, will improve road safety by connecting cars directly with each other and transport authorities. 

Emergency services will be able to respond to incidents faster and more safely by directly letting a greater number of road users and local authorities know they need right of way.
